Windwave is looking for an experienced Vac Truck Operator to support civil, utility, and telecommunications construction projects. This position operates hydro-vac and vacuum excavation equipment for daylighting, potholing, utility locating support, non-destructive excavation, and debris removal.
We're looking for a skilled operator who understands underground utilities, takes care of their equipment, and can work safely and independently on active construction sites.
What You’ll Do:
- Safely operate hydro-vac and vacuum excavation equipment.
- Perform daylighting, potholing, utility locating support, and non-destructive excavation.
- Read utility locate markings, site plans, and construction drawings.
- Work closely with construction crews, utility locators, and utility owners.
- Support trenching and excavation activities while protecting existing underground infrastructure.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and routine maintenance.
- Identify and report equipment or mechanical issues promptly.
- Complete job tickets, equipment inspections, DOT logs, and excavation documentation.
- Follow OSHA, DOT, company, and customer safety requirements.
- Support traffic control, excavation safety, and emergency response when required.
What You’ll Bring:
- Class A or Class B CDL.
- Tanker endorsement is required.
- Current DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain and maintain one.
- 2+ years of experience operating hydro-vac, vacuum excavation equipment, or similar heavy equipment.
- Experience working around underground utilities and active construction sites.
- Knowledge of daylighting, potholing, utility locating, and safe excavation practices.
- Ability to read utility locate markings and construction plans.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance.
- Valid driving record and ability to meet DOT requirements.
- Ability to work safely and independently while communicating effectively with crews and project leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hydro-vac or vacuum truck experience.
- Telecommunications or fiber construction experience.
- HazMat endorsement or ability to obtain.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
- Competent Person – Trenching & Excavation certification.
- Confined Space Entry certification.
- Traffic Control/Flagger certification.
- Experience with 811 systems and utility owners.
- Must pass drug screen and background check.
Work Environment:
This is a field-based position working primarily outdoors on active construction sites. Work may involve changing weather conditions, mud, water, noise, traffic, uneven terrain, heavy equipment, excavations, and underground utilities.
Overtime, travel, overnight stays, weekends, and emergency response may be required based on project schedules and operational needs.
